Feed-In Tariffs
Not only will your solar panels help to reduce the carbon footprint of your home, and improve its' Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating when the time comes to move, your system will produce a regular, tax-free and inflation-proof income for you, for the next 25 years.
To encourage uptake of solar electricity, the Government has introduced "feed-in tariffs" (or FiTs), which mean that if you have an approved solar pv system installed by an accredited company, your electricity provider must pay you a sum (currently 43.3p) for every unit (kWh) of electricity that your home produces. This sum is guaranteed for 25 years, will rise annually, in line with the rate of inflation. These payments are also completely tax-free, making solar pv, if your home is suitable, a good investment for most and an excellent one for higher rate taxpayers.
FiTs mean that a well-designed system, in an appropriate location, could recoup their purchase cost in as little as 7 years and go on to produce a surplus of over £40,000 in their lifetime.
